GOTW: Brinkman Gourmet Charcoal Smoker
Posted by Angus on 10/13/2008 (3327 reads)

A couple of Sundays ago my brother-in-law Paul and myself were invited over to our brother-in-law Doug's house to watch our beloved Chicago Bears take on his beloved Detroit Lions. Our plan was to help Doug set up his kegerator, break in a smoker that he was given as a gift several years ago, drink beer, watch football and smoke some meat! All was accomplished very well.

GOTW: Weber Ranch Kettle 60020
Posted by Angus on 09/12/2008 (3215 reads)

OK, I know I'm not the only person who's been grillin' for a crowd and not had enough room on the grill for all the meat. Don't you hate that? You have to cook a little meat then move it some place to stay warm while you finish the rest. Worse yet, everyone else starts eating while you're still chained to the grill! Well, if you had the Weber Ranch Kettle 60020 you would've had plenty of grill area to cook an entire cow! IT'S HUGE! It measures 42″ H x 37.75″ W x 44.75″ D and it features OVER 1,000 square inches of grilling surface! It's wide enough to set up multiple cooking zones for direct and indirect cooking at the same time! Did I mention it's HUGE? It's a little pricey (between $800 and $1,400 depending where you get it. SHOP AROUND!), but it would be a great investment for any of us who love to grill huge amounts of meat. Hell, you could even cook those giant mastadon ribs from The Flintstones if you wanted to!

GOTW: C-burner Cabinet Smoker Conversion Kit
Posted by Angus on 07/15/2008 (7740 reads)

meat smokerThinking of taking that old freezer to the junk yard? Hold on a sec...why not put it to some good use? With the C-burner Cabinet Smoker Conversion Kit you can turn any old fridge or freezer into a smoking cabinet!

Caution:
Don't try this with one of the newer type freezers that have Styrofoam insulation. The stuff is very flammable, and could leach toxic fumes into the cooking chamber.
Next, it's important to find a freezer (refrigerator) with a steel inside box, not plastic like most all of the newer models. The really old ones have steel liners. A magnet will tell.

GOTW : Weber - One Touch Silver
Posted by Angus on 07/03/2008 (2856 reads)

Weber grillA CLASSIC! Weber kettle grills have been a mainstay in backyard grilling longer than I have been alive! I still have the one my Dad used when I was just a little meat eater!

The Weber kettle is know for it's durability and ease of use. It's adjustable vents and grilling rack are perfect for all types of grilling. I use mine for mostly for "indirect cooking" (look for Sven's tips on Indirect and Direct cooking coming soon). I just set up some coals or apple wood off to one side and throw on some ribs and a away we go!!

With out a doubt, If I could only use one grill...it would be the Weber.

You can see all of the specs and features at here.

Grill of the Week - Char-Griller: "Smokin Pro" - $179.00 srp
Posted by Angus on 06/22/2008 (3246 reads)

We chose the Char-griller for a very good reason. Sven has been using this very model religiously going on 12 years now. It has been the center piece of many a backyard BBQ at Casa de Sven! Let me tell you this...the Char-griller has earned it's keep! It has been left outside in the rain, sleet, snow, and even hail since day one. The only maintainance it has ever needed is a little touch up with grill paint or bacon grease (coming soon "seasoning a grill" in our "Grilling Tips" section). The optional smoker box is a must have and is relatively easy to install! In our humble (and a little biased) opinion...BUY THIS GRILL!

Here are some of the stats...
