Meat Cake! No, Really.
Posted by Sven on 08/13/2008 (3331 reads)

meat cakeNo, this isn't just some cleverly frosted cake with a drawing of a t-bone on it. It's actually made of meat... and potatoes... and gravy!

"The Black Widow," owner of the
Black Widow Bakery no less, created this and documented the entire process for us.

Is it the only meat cake ever? Of course not. In fact, Martha Stewart made one. It's got vegetables in it. Sorry, but that just spoils the whole thing. So don't send us any stupid email. We just like this one the best. Deal with it.

Check out the meat cake extravaganza here.

I Guess Zombies Won't Eat Everyone...
Posted by Angus on 08/13/2008 (2069 reads)

Pamela AndersonWe were surprised to find out that zombies do have some standards when it comes to who they will or will not eat. Who knew? Our PETA friend Pamela Anderson did make the list, but not for some of the reasons you might think. Now we're pretty sure she still hates us and our Meatatarian ways, but she is fun to look at and we are very glad she would be safe from a zombie attack!

Check out the list here.

Who's Up for Some Bakin' with Bacon??
Posted by dirtykalb on 08/12/2008 (2790 reads)

You heard me right - Baking with Bacon. And to kick off the bacon bakin' extravaganza I bequeath upon you the apparently famed German Oktoberfest cookie.

Bacon Cookies

4 slices bacon, cut into small pieces
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter or margarine, chilled
1 egg
1 pinch salt
3 tablespoons heavy cream
1 dash ground black pepper
1 egg yolk, beaten

1. Fry bacon pieces in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon to paper towels, and cool completely.

2. Into a large mixing bowl, place the flour, butter or margarine, egg, salt, and heavy cream. Using the mixer's hook attachment, mix the contents of the bowl together until combined; then transfer the dough to the counter, and quickly mix with your hands. Knead in cooled bacon pieces and pepper.

3. Roll up the dough into a log, to a diameter of about 1 1/2 inches. Wrap in aluminum foil, and refrigerate for 2 hours, until firm.

4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Remove foil, cut dough roll into slices, and place slices on greased baking sheet. Brush each slice with beaten egg yolk.

5. Bake in a preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, until brown. Remove to a wire rack until cooled completely.

Ode to Meat Cookies

Meat CookiesWell, you won't see this on Sesame Street, but there might be a lot less militant "Go Veg" adults pushing their beliefs on us if it HAD been.

Check out this song and puppet ensemble "Meat Cookies" from Leslie Carrara-Rudolph and her pal Lolly.
